IBM Release Orchestrator for Z
Project summary: Release Orchestrator for Z is a coordination layer that schedules, sequences, and governs when and in what order mainframe z/OS application deployments happen. This tool connects the teams, approvals, and compliance evidence that make a release safe to ship.
The problem being solved: Wazi Deploy, IBM's mainframe deployment execution tool, can be installed in two ways. The traditional model runs directly on z/OS. A newer, more modern model runs locally on a MacBook or CI server and connects to z/OS via SSH. DevOps engineers prefer this off-platform model because it works with familiar tools like Git, VS Code, and standard CI pipelines. Still, it has no standard integration path into Release Orchestrator today. Workflow files live in Git rather than on the mainframe, evidence files land on the local machine rather than z/OS, and there is no mechanism for Release Orchestrator to discover variables, trigger execution, or collect compliance evidence from an off-platform deployment.
